Here at Sort Legal, we invest in our people and we want to invest in you. We’re a new, Derby based law firm created for Mortgage Advisers and Estate Agency. Although we are a relatively new firm, we’re growing fast and are currently hiring recruits to join various teams within the company. We’ve set up a Remortgage Academy to offer a full training course for those people looking to get into property law.
The training academy will equip you with all of the skills you'll need to progress, whilst integrating you fully into the company. After successfully passing your 6-month training, you'll receive promotion to Remortgage Fee Earner.
More information on the induction plan is detailed below.
Discover your passion for property law and begin your legal career by joining our Sort Legal Remortgage Academy. The Academy is a 6-month training programme where you will learn the ins and outs of the Remortgage process and gain valuable experience to aid your development within Conveyancing. This programme is ideal for anyone looking for an entry into law practice or who have recently graduated from university with a law degree.
It’s an exciting time to join our firm as we are relatively new so there is an immense opportunity for progression. Upon successfully completing the training programme you will be eligible for promotion to a fully trained Remortgage Fee Earner.

The first two weeks will provide you with technical knowledge of how to complete the Remortgage process and understanding the basics of Conveyancing. You will be presented with your own Standard Operating Procedure Manual, which will include everything you need to know for your first two weeks of training. The manual is there for you to refer back to and it’s there to guide you through the procedure when given your caseload.
Training will include using our case management system on test cases once you have learnt the theory; you will be able to see it in practice.
After completing your first two weeks with us, you will be required to undertake a knowledge-based assessment to determine your level of understanding and knowledge gained from the past two weeks. This will give us the opportunity to assess your overall ability to progress to a fully-fledged Remortgage Fee Earner.
The rest of your time during your academy training will be spent on the team with live Remortgage cases, taking into account everything you have learnt during your first two weeks. You will be paired with a member of the Sort Legal team for guidance and to answer any of your queries. Initially, you will be given a small caseload, which will gradually increase as you progress and gain confidence. You will also have close supervision with a team leader who will be your first point of contact if any issues arise.
At the end of your training journey, you’ll be proud to say that you are a fully-fledged Remortgage Fee Earner with an increase in salary and future opportunities to progress into a legal assistant, transactional fee earner, team leader or licensed conveyancer.
“Sort Legal is a friendly company where the staff support each other and work as a team. Regardless of which team you work in; we get along as one. Having worked in smaller high street firms, I can say that this is not always the case! The workload is varied and plentiful, thanks to the SortRefer system. We also have the latest case management technology which means we are able to spend our time helping our clients with their transactions.”
