Initially launched in 2017 in Derby, Sort Legal was created to provide quality legal services to clients wishing to buy, sell or remortgage their homes. In 2020, we opened our second office location in Cardiff and expanded our team.
Our Cardiff office is located centrally between Cardiff city centre and Cardiff docks. We even have a small rocky beach, just a 20 minutes' walk away. Our Head of Legal Practice, Rhodri Howells, is also based at our Cardiff office.
Although smaller than our Derby team, we're looking to expand soon; exciting things are to come for Cardiff!
We caught up with Conveyancing Solicitor Hannah Whittle this week, based at our Cardiff office. She's given us insight into what it's like to work in Cardiff, her daily tasks, and the Cardiff team.
So, Hannah, what do you do here at Sort Legal?
I'm a Solicitor and Legal Manager for the Cardiff junior case handlers (Helen, Nyash, Annie, Chyna, Tim, and Morgan.
Who do you work with daily?
My team is usually Helen and Nyash; however, I am now working closely with all of the juniors at the Cardiff office – Helen, Nyash, Annie, Chynna, Tim, and Morgan as I am signing off their files and providing mentoring, helping to develop their training.
What does a typical day for you look like?
This includes working on all aspects of the legal transaction, dealing with transaction types of all complexities, including Freehold, Newbuild, Leasehold, Lease extensions etc. and also providing oversight for all of the work which is being done by the junior case handlers as well as a final sign off of their files.
What's it like to work in Cardiff?
Our office is pretty small, so our relationships are pretty personal, and we are a close-knit office, I would say.
We all help each other out and make a conscious effort to lift each other if we are having a bad day or getting stressed. We have an easy-going atmosphere; it's a really enjoyable place to work.
How long have you worked for Sort Legal?
One year on 1st Feb 2022.
What are the best things about working for Sort Legal?
The close relationships we have established in the Cardiff office. The fact that Sort Legal was new in Cardiff – so has been able to be part of the evolving changes, gain more staff, and comment on aspects of the firm that work and don't work. Being part of the future discussions for the work structure and being asked to take the legal manager role for internal training for the junior case handlers. Seeing their progress is rewarding for the firm and me personally, as I know I have played a role in the training aspect.
