Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: Munhim Raja's Journey

11 Feb 2025

National Apprenticeship Week is a time to celebrate the incredible impact apprenticeships have in creating new opportunities for both individuals and businesses. Here at Sort, we’re dedicated to cultivating young talent through our diverse apprenticeship programmes, providing individuals with hands-on experience across various departments in the Legal, IT and Marketing sectors. By working alongside experienced professionals, our apprentices not only develop valuable skills but also gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in their chosen careers and make a lasting impact within the company.

In this feature, Munhim Raja, our latest Post Completion Administrative Apprentice at Sort Legal, shares his experience as he begins his apprenticeship journey.

What made you choose to go down the apprenticeship route?

I chose the apprenticeship route because it offered the perfect balance between gaining hands-on work experience and continuing my education. Rather than just studying in a classroom, I wanted to apply my knowledge in a real working environment while earning a qualification. It also provided me with financial independence, as I could earn a salary while learning, and it felt like a great stepping stone toward my long-term career goals in the legal and business sector.

Can you describe your apprenticeship role and the type of work you’re doing?

I’m a Business Administration Apprentice at Sort Legal, working in the post-completion department. My role involves handling key administrative tasks related to property transactions. This includes submitting AP1 applications, archiving completed files, managing post, and processing TIDs. I also use various legal software such as Practice Evolve, InfoTrack, and Lender Exchange to ensure documents are processed efficiently. Attention to detail is crucial in my role, as I need to make sure all legal documents are accurate and properly stored.

How has the apprenticeship helped you develop new skills?

The apprenticeship has significantly improved my professional and technical skills. I’ve developed strong attention to detail, which is crucial when handling legal documents and ensuring compliance. My communication skills have also improved, especially in dealing with clients and colleagues professionally. Additionally, I’ve learned how to use industry-specific software, improving my IT and data management abilities. On a personal level, I’ve gained confidence in my decision-making and problem-solving skills

How has your mentor supported your journey?

My mentor has been incredibly supportive, guiding me through the different processes involved in post-completion work. He helped me understand how to correctly archive files, submit applications, and manage important documents efficiently. His feedback has been valuable in helping me improve my accuracy and efficiency. He has also encouraged me to take on new responsibilities, which has helped build my confidence and develop my skills further.

What advice would you give someone starting their apprenticeship journey?

For anyone starting an apprenticeship, I’d recommend being proactive and asking plenty of questions. Learning from experienced colleagues will help you improve quickly. Staying organized is also key, especially when managing multiple tasks. Take the time to understand the systems and processes used in your role, as this will make your work more efficient. Finally, be patient with yourself—there’s a lot to learn, but with time and effort, you’ll gain valuable skills that will benefit your career.
