Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: Natasha Gibson's Journey

14 Feb 2025

National Apprenticeship Week is a time to celebrate the incredible impact apprenticeships have in creating new opportunities for both individuals and businesses. Here at Sort, we’re dedicated to cultivating young talent through our diverse apprenticeship programmes, providing individuals with hands-on experience across various departments in the Legal, IT and Marketing sectors. By working alongside experienced professionals, our apprentices not only develop valuable skills but also gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in their chosen careers and make a lasting impact within the company.

In this blog post, Natasha Gibson, our first Apprentice Group Marketing Assistant, shares her experience as she begins her apprenticeship journey.

What made you choose to go down the apprenticeship route?

I chose to do an apprenticeship because after doing a Marketing module at university, I knew it was the path I wanted to pursue, but I didn’t have enough experience to get a job in the industry. A friend of mine, who was in a similar position, recommended the apprenticeship route. That’s when I discovered the Althaus apprenticeship programme, which offered the perfect opportunity to gain hands-on experience while learning from professionals in the field. This has allowed me to build my skills, gain valuable knowledge, and follow a structured career path that is helping me build a future in the industry.

Can you describe your apprenticeship role and the type of work you’re doing?

As an Apprentice in a Marketing role, every day is different. My tasks can range from creating Marketing assets for SortRefer regional events to working on internal projects like the Sort Legal training academy. I'm involved in everything from content creation, and managing reviews to overseeing social media, as well as assisting with and running my own campaigns. These experiences allow me to learn new skills and collaborate with different members of the team.

How has your mentor supported your journey?

Both of my mentors have been extremely supportive during my apprenticeship, providing me with valuable guidance and feedback. Although I’ve only been an apprentice for three months, I’ve gained confidence with every task, and their encouragement has helped me grow both professionally and personally.

How has the apprenticeship helped you develop new skills?

My apprenticeship has helped me develop a wide range of skills, from gaining valuable knowledge from weekly online sessions to applying what I’ve learned to real projects. This experience has been extremely beneficial in building my career.

What’s the best advice your mentor has given you?

“Mistakes happen – it’s all a learning process.” This has really stuck with me, as it’s a reminder that mistakes are simply opportunities to learn and improve.
