Our Cardiff office has gained a newbie!
We're pleased to announce that Maryam Begum will now be in our Remortgage Team.
Now that Maryam has settled into her new role, we thought this would be a great time to catch up and get to know her personally. Please read below to find out how Maryam is finding her feet at Sort Legal and what she hopes to achieve!
How was your week at Sort Legal?
My week was great, and everyone was very welcoming. It is a different environment from what I am used to but in a good way!
What attracted you to Sort Legal?
I noticed the company through social media, giving me friendly and positive vibes. I already knew a few people working here, and they confirmed this, so I applied for the job.
What inspired your career choice? Why Conveyancing?
I enjoyed studying property law during my degree at Cardiff University. This encouraged me to look into Conveyancing, and I haven't looked back.
Tell us about your previous experience; what did you do before?
After graduating in 2018, I worked as an immigration and family law paralegal for a year. I later switched to Conveyancing and have worked as a remortgage case handler for the last two and a half years.
What are your hobbies, and how did you get into them?
I love to bake, although I have had my fair share of baking fails. I have been doing it in my spare time for as long as I can remember, and it helps me relax after a stressful day. I grew up obsessed with the "Great British Bake Off", so I can only assume that's where the hobby came from.
I also love to find new restaurants to try with friends; we're all big foodies.
Tell us something few people know about you.
I'm pretty quiet when you first meet me; however, once you get to know me, I am the complete opposite.
If you were ruler of your own country, what would be the first Law you would introduce?
A four-day working week as I'm sure everyone would enjoy the extra day off.. oh, and free chocolate for all!
What's your most prized possession, and why?
I'm not sure if a cat counts as a possession, but my cat 'Bebe' is my whole world. I've had him for nearly two years and can confirm he was the best birthday present ever!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I want to continue working in Conveyancing and expanding my knowledge in the area. I also hope to get on the property ladder and purchase my first home. I have a list of countries I'd love to travel to; fingers crossed, I would have ticked a few of those off as well.
How would your friends describe you?
I think they would describe me as kind and supportive. My nickname was Mary Poppins growing up, as I always had anything anyone needed in my bag, so yes, I am very much the mum of the group!
