This week we were joined by Special Guest Matt Bedlow!
Matt Bedlow, an employee at Sort Legal, started his career as an Apprentice in the New Business Team. Since joining in 2019, Matt has developed his career and is now a Business Administration Executive.
As the new year is approaching, we wanted to catch up with Matt and learn more about his development at Sort Legal and how our onboarding process differs from other Conveyancers.
So Matt, when did you join Sort Legal? Can you tell us a little more about the start of your journey?
I joined Sort Legal in July 2019 after finishing my GCSE Exams as an Apprentice in the New Business Team. During this time, I was trained on both the Transactional (Sale & Purchase) side and the Remortgage side of the company. I was beginning to provide quotes for Sale and Purchase transactions and hold all the new files that come through us.
When the file is with us, we issue the initial documentation to the client/s, which we require them to complete, sign and return to us. We also require their completion of Credas/Certified Photo ID & Proof of Address Documentation from the Mortgage Broker, as well as that we need an initial payment (£300 on a Purchase & £50 on a Sale). As well as dealing with new clients, I dealt with the incoming post, which I generated and allocated to the correct Legal Team. Alongside this, I also completed a course through Derby College.
Since starting your career at Sort Legal, how have you developed? What are you working on currently?
In July 2020, I received a Distinction in my Business Administration Course and was fully taken on as a member of the New Business Department.
Since then, I have dealt with more Remortgage Cases (issuing the initial documentation, requesting the Client's Completion/Certified Photo ID & Proof of Address Documentation from the Mortgage Broker). When this is returned to us, we run our ID/AML Checks, download the title documentation from Land Registry, request an Initial Redemption Statement if there is a current mortgage on the Property and chase for the Mortgage Offer if this has not yet come in. Once this has been done, the file is allocated to a Case Handler in the Remortgage Department.
How has Sort Legal helped you?
Since starting at Sort Legal, I have gained confidence in speaking to people face-to-face and over the phone, creating a good relationship with our Clients, Mortgage Brokers and Other Parties involved in the transactions.
My favourite thing about working here is my colleagues. They're always happy to help with any questions I ask them.
