Our Lasting Power of Attorney service

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so yourself. This may be due to illness, an accident, loss of mental capacity, or conditions such as dementia. Having an LPA in place ensures that important decisions about your finances, property, health and welfare can be made by someone you trust when you need it most.

What we offer at Sort Legal?

  • Health & Welfare LPA - Allows your chosen attorney to make decisions about medical treatment, care arrangements and daily welfare.
  • Property & Financial Affairs LPA - Allows your chosen attorney to manage finances, property, bank accounts and bills.

Having an LPA in place can help avoid costly and stressful court applications should you lose capacity in the future, ensuring your wishes are respected.

Our Sort Legal Process

Planning for the future can feel overwhelming, but having the right support in place can provide reassurance and peace of mind for you and the people who matter most. Our Private Client team is here to help you make important decisions with confidence, offering practical, personal advice that is tailored to your individual circumstances.

  1. Get in touch – Contact our team to arrange a no-obligation consultation.
  2. Your initial advice appointment - This will be either face to face, or online via zoom or teams (depending on your location). In this appointment, we will understand the circumstances of you and your family from a legal, financial and personal standpoint, to get an idea of what advice you may need.
  3. Your personalised plan – Following your initial appointment, we’ll send you a plan designed around your needs. This will be tailored completely to your set of circumstances and may include some or all of our service options.
  4. Review meeting - In this appointment, we will discuss our recommendations with you, answer any questions and ensure you fully understand your options. This will either be face-to-face, or online via zoom or teams (depending on your location).
  5. Considering your options - Following the review meeting, you'll have time to review everything, giving you time to check everything over and ensure you’re happy with the service we have proposed to you.
  6. Happy to proceed with the service(s) - Once you’re happy to proceed, your plan will be put into place, and any documents will become valid once signed and witnessed.

Depending on the services you’ve instructed us for, there may be a longer process and additional work. For example, Probate and Court of Protection take much more work and time.
