Sort

Our Probate service

Probate Solicitors provide support with the legal process of sorting out someone’s estate after they die. Probate can be a long and complicated process, especially during a difficult time. At Sort Legal, our Probate Solicitors are here to guide you through every step with clarity and care.

This service typically includes:

  1. Valuing assets
  2. Dealing with HMRC
  3. Settling debts
  4. Dealing with banks
  5. Distributing inheritance

What we offer at Sort Legal?

  • Grant of Probate Only Service - Suitable for executors who wish to administer the estate themselves but require professional assistance obtaining the Grant of Probate. The Grant of Probate is a legal document that gives authority to manage the deceased’s affairs.

  • Full Estate Administration - A complete service where we handle the Probate process from start to finish, including dealing with assets, liabilities, financial institutions, HMRC and beneficiaries.

Both services aim to provide a professional and efficient way to manage the deceased's estate, but the level of involvement and cost will depend on the executor's preferences and the complexity of the estate.

Our Sort Legal Process

Planning for the future can feel overwhelming, but having the right support in place can provide reassurance and peace of mind for you and the people who matter most. Our Private Client team is here to help you make important decisions with confidence, offering practical, personal advice that is tailored to your individual circumstances.

  1. Get in touch – Contact our team to arrange a no-obligation consultation.
  2. Your initial advice appointment - This will be either face to face, or online via zoom or teams (depending on your location). In this appointment, we will understand the circumstances of you and your family from a legal, financial and personal standpoint, to get an idea of what advice you may need.
  3. Your personalised plan – Following your initial appointment, we’ll send you a plan designed around your needs. This will be tailored completely to your set of circumstances and may include some or all of our service options.
  4. Review meeting - In this appointment, we will discuss our recommendations with you, answer any questions and ensure you fully understand your options. This will either be face-to-face, or online via zoom or teams (depending on your location).
  5. Considering your options - Following the review meeting, you'll have time to review everything, giving you time to check everything over and ensure you’re happy with the service we have proposed to you.
  6. Happy to proceed with the service(s) - Once you’re happy to proceed, your plan will be put into place, and any documents will become valid once signed and witnessed.

Depending on the services you’ve instructed us for, there may be a longer process and additional work. For example, Probate and Court of Protection take much more work and time.
