Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week: Ellie White's Journey

13 Feb 2025

National Apprenticeship Week is a time to celebrate the incredible impact apprenticeships have in creating new opportunities for both individuals and businesses. Here at Sort, we’re dedicated to cultivating young talent through our diverse apprenticeship programmes, providing individuals with hands-on experience across various departments in the Legal, IT and Marketing sectors. By working alongside experienced professionals, our apprentices not only develop valuable skills but also gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in their chosen careers and make a lasting impact within the company.

In this blog post, Ellie White, now working towards her Level 4 AAT Qualification, reflects on her journey as an apprentice.

What made you choose to go down the apprenticeship route?

Having started my career in a different role, I decided to pursue a career in accountancy. An apprenticeship was the perfect opportunity to gain both the hands-on experience and qualifications to help me succeed in this field.

What has been the most rewarding part of your apprenticeship?

Being able to balance studying with a full-time job, and still earning a new qualification, has definitely been challenging but also the most rewarding part of my apprenticeship.

What’s the best advice your mentor has given you?

My mentor gave me valuable advice on exam preparation, helping me understand what to expect and what the AAT focuses on. With exams being stressful, he reassured me that it's not as bad as it may seem, which helped me approach it with more confidence.

What are you most excited about in the next steps of your career now that you have completed your apprenticeship?

Using the skills and knowledge I gained to be able to take the next step in my career. I have recently started a higher-level apprenticeship to enable myself to learn and grow in the professional industry.

What advice would you give someone considering an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a great way to try something new. Even if you don’t end up pursuing a career in the same role, you will still gain valuable skills that will help you succeed in any career path.
