After completing her apprenticeship in just 15 months, Ellie has proudly earned her AAT Qualification and has recently been offered a permanent position as our Trainee Management Accountant at Sort Group.
We spent some time with Ellie to reflect on her apprenticeship, the challenges she faced and advice for those considering a career in finance…
What did your apprenticeship involve?
It involved going to college once a week to gain my AAT qualification alongside my portfolio and own learning to help me pass my apprenticeship.
What motivated you to pursue a career in Finance/Accountancy?
I enjoy problem-solving and a career in finance where attention to detail is key was a great way to put this skill to use!
How did Sort Group support your development throughout your apprenticeship?
Sort has been great at allowing me to learn different aspects of management accounting and legal accounts, there was always someone to ask if I was ever unsure of anything.
Since you joined Sort Group, what would you say is your proudest achievement so far?
Completing my Level 3 AAT qualification.
What challenges did you face during your apprenticeship, and how did you overcome them?
It can be difficult balancing the learning of both my new role and the qualification but quality time management allowed me to manage both really well.
Can you describe a typical day in your role as a newly appointed Trainee Management Accountant?
There is not really a typical day as every day is different, it could involve preparing management accounts, reconciliations and legal accounts all in one!
What would you say to someone who is looking to start their career in Finance?
Go for it! An apprenticeship is a great way to gain knowledge and experience at the same time.
What are you looking forward to within the next few years of your career?
Starting my Level 4 AAT qualification and learning more about Tax!
